This position serves the following counties: Sumner, Davidson, Williamson, Rutherford


The Health, Safety & Supervision Coach will provide training, technical assistance, and support to licensed child care providers and CCR&R Quality Coaches. In this position, you will have the opportunity to make a difference for Tennessee’s children by helping child care providers increase their knowledge of what is necessary to maintain healthy and safe environments within child care programs.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Research and stay current on best practices on health, safety and supervision of children.
  • Provide support for educators promoting health, safety and supervision in the classroom, modeling best practices and using current resources.
  • Support coaches with peer learning groups focusing on health, safety and supervision topics for child care educators.
  • Provide support for educators promoting health practices in the classroom, modeling best practices in trainings and using Caring for Our Children Health and Safety Standards, 4th Edition in response to referrals.
  • Provide prioritized targeted technical assistance in response to health, safety, and supervision referrals from, or in collaboration with DHS, or CCDF Partners. Referral responses must be timely.
  • Provide specialized technical assistance to child care agencies regarding health, safety and supervision topics and support the development of agency Enhanced Quality Improvement Plans (EQIPs).
  • Maintain and share knowledge and understanding of required training content areas, facilitate Train the Trainer opportunities and participate in other such trainings as the CCR&R Network or funder may identify.
  • Support developmental monitoring and knowledge of developmental milestones among child care agencies, teachers, and families through distribution and training of Learn the Signs: Act Early resources produced by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
  • Conduct Reviews of Emergency Preparedness Plans.
  • Complete First Aid/CPR certification.
  • Work with the Emergency Preparedness Specialist to provide support for regional Children in Disaster Task Force including but not limited to consultation with child care agencies for emergency preparedness planning related to child and educator health, safety, and supervision.
  • Train CCR&R staff, DHS staff, and other CCDF partners or funder-requested groups.
  • Attend CCR&R Partner Meetings as requested.
  • Network within the community to educate and raise awareness of the importance of the health, safety and supervision of children.
  • Demonstrate support of direct supervisor and network management to model integrity and professionalism.
  • Consistently upholding network expectations.
  • Participate in task forces or community boards as assigned.
  • Submit data on TA, TTA and training within 3 days of when the service is delivered.
  • Provide training and technical assistance at times most convenient for our child care agencies and partners, which may at times require work on weeknights or weekends.
  • Provide in-person training and technical assistance to adult learners in both large group, small group, and individual settings.
  • Create Information sheets for all coaches delivering prevention level services.
  • Participate in CCR&R meetings, staff and partner meetings and other meetings called by DHS or partners, which may require overnight travel.
  • Author content for CCR&R newsletter/social media/website as requested.
  • Collaborate with applicable State agencies.
  • Achieve and maintain AIMHi ™ endorsement.
  • Positively market the CCR&R Network to the community.
  • Initiate and cultivate an inclusive work environment.
  • Other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

This person will be based from a home office environment and travel frequently throughout the service area visiting child care providers. Significant local travel to surrounding counties is required. Overnight travel is also required to attend training and meetings within the state. These are most often held in Murfreesboro. Regular use of a personal vehicle and maintenance of personal auto insurance in accordance with TN state law is required. Travel expenses will be paid in accordance with established state rates. Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must have Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution in education, Early Childhood Education, Child Development, Public Health, Health Education and/or Promotion, Child Nutrition, or Health Administration; a Master’s degree is preferred.
  •  At least 3 years of experience in the field of licensed childcare
  •  Knowledge of standard concepts, practices and procedures within the early childhood field.
  •  Experience training and coaching adult learners.
  •  Excellent writing, presentation, and communication skills.
  •  Organization and self- motivation skills as the position is based out of a home office environment.
  •   Must be a systems thinker who sees the broad picture and works well in a collaborative environment.
  •  Physical examination and record of negative TB test results must be on file with Signal Centers.
  •  Dependable transportation, valid driver’s license and insurance required along with a willingness to travel statewide, work some nights and weekends.
  •  Must be able to work from a remote home environment within the state of TN.
